Restaurant Ephipany

An epiphany on Restaurant Epiphany.

We did not stop going to restaurants, just paused writing about it.  Well, we are back!  This blog will resume where we left off, chronicling our restaurant adventures.  We have the same Golden Rule: we will never return to the same restaurant. Every meal is a first encounter. There is one exception to the Golden Epiphany Rule: if we find a restaurant that is extraordinary, we can revisit it on special occasions only.

Rezdora June 21, 2026

Tatiana, Semma, Torrisi, Jean Georges, Rezdora.  Just a few of the NYC restaurants where it is impossible to get a reservation.  For Lily’s (my daughter) birthday and our wedding anniversary, we thought it would make life easier by dining locally at The Smith.  And then, alas, at 2:30PM, I got the unexpected thunder bolt text!  Off the waitlist at Rezdora.   Unbelievable!!  Rezdora is a Michelin starred restaurant in New York’s Flatiron District.   A golden opportunity to dine at this renowned dining venue known for the best pastas in NYC!!!! Talk about expectations!!

When we arrived, the hostess greeted us warmly with salutations for our birthday/anniversary celebrations.  She then ushered us to our table in a setting one would politely call intimate. However, when one can clearly hear the convo of diners two tables over, this unmistakably meets the definition of cramped. No worries! We were so excited and delighted to be at Rezdora that the tight proximity of the tables was a mild inconvenience.

We started out with a burrata that was delicate and creamy yet surprisingly lacking in seasoning..   Fortunately, we had also ordered the scrumptious Fett’unta, a perfectly grilled bread with extra virgin olive oil.   Well, the meal definitely began on a promising note with the lovely appetizers arriving promptly. Yet, the kitchen seemed to move to its own drummer.  We sat there and built up an appetite waiting for the entrees for about thirty minutes.  Little did we know that the size of the entrees would give new meaning to the phrase ‘portion control.’  The halibut arrived beautifully cooked and artfully plated but the serving size was disapprovingly meager. The pasta dishes were delicate and silky yet they only consisted of a few strands.  Fine dining often values quality over quantity yet these portions were so small that the price point was hard to justify.  On the Uber ride home, all this hungry crew could focus on was where to pick up a pizza.
